Britain’s Andy Murray gave himself the perfect birthday present as he won his first Italian Open title with a 6-3 6-3 victory over Novak Djokovic. Will Andy conduct his interview in Italian? He does attempt a “Hello” in Italian to some applause and says sorry for not being as good at languages as Novak. Birthday boy Andy Murray gave himself the perfect gift as he defeated world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the Italian Open final Sunday.
Murray could have been forgiven for entering yesterday’s Rome Masters final with an air of pessimism. He had lost 12 of his previous 13 matches with the Serb, and had never triumphed in four encounters on the red dirt.
Murray admitted that he does not usually look to his birthday as a source of on-court inspiration.
“To be honest I haven’t won many matches on my birthday before never mind tournaments,” he joked.
