Committee and Commissions 

Committee : A group of certain people whose have entrusted with some authority and powers to inquire/deal/resolve/carryout the task/submit report accordingly with the task entrusted for them. the committee may be short term committee or long term committee.

Ex : All parliamentary committees, committees set up authority of government.

Commission : A group of people who are entrusted by a government to carry out a task. Sometimes the task is a specific one and some time long term for example :

Election commission- Its task is long term, conduct elections for every 5 years, UPSC Commission – Its task is long term to conduct exams annually and submit reports to concerned authorities. commission can be a committee, but very few committees are commissions, and some commissions are not committees.

All the committees and Commission operate under the authority of the government

Right from beginning of the British rule in India, The committee and commission system followed in Indian administration, some popular committee and commission in British ruled India  are Macaulay commission, Famines Commission and many more

All the committees and commission are entrusted with one or other responsibilities and task for which they are entrusted
