National Career Service (NCS)

National Career Service (NCS) refers to a national web portal - www.ncs.gov.in - that brings job seekers, employers, career counsellors and skill / training providers on a common platform.

 In addition to placement services, the National Career Service (NCS) also offers a variety of other services like information on skill development courses, apprenticeship, internship, career counseling, etc. free of costs to the beneficiaries. 

Details in Brief:

• The portal also make available, information on local service providers to household and other consumers, say for services like driving, plumbing, carpentry, etc.

• The Ministry of Labour and Employment launched the National Career Service (NCS) Project by transforming the processes in the existing network of 978 Employment Exchanges whereby they also function as career centers. 

• These Employment Exchanges including the 75 University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau are now transformed into career centers.

• In fact, the hitherto existing web based National Employment Service comprising of a network of 978 Employment Exchanges is now transformed into National Career Service (NCS) by leveraging information technology to improve the delivery of services.

• The NCS portal provides a nation-wide online platform for jobseekers and employers for job matching in a dynamic, efficient and responsive manner.

• Data of jobseekers already registered with state /local employment exchanges are made available on the NCS portal which they can activate using their Aadhaar details. 

•  Similarly, Establishments having Labour Identification Number (LIN) are on the NCS portal so that they can post their vacancies. 

• NCS would facilitate not just the online matching of jobs, but provide information about opportunities for training and re-skilling also. 

• The career centers are also entrusted with the task of regular organizing of Job fairs, events and workshop for efficient placement. 

• The NCS is also establishing a network of Career Counselors where the career centres will become the hub of Career Counseling in their area.
